Canals Enschede Part 1

Research and Concept

If we go back in time we will see that Enschede had canals. How great would it be if they will be build again!? Only now on a different spot because the city did grow a lot.

This project has two points of view. First one is bringing back the canals to Enschede, which we will call the outer canals. The second one is about making a concept for the inner canals as they were back in the days. We can't really build the inner canal anymore because of all the buildings so I have to think about an alternative.

For the outer canals, I did some research as you can see on the image right here. And for the inner canals, I'm working on concepts to visualize the old canals. Give the feeling and recognition so people know and see that they were right in the city.

My first idea was placing tiles on the spots where the canal was. These tiles light up blue and also provide energy when people walk over them. I had this idea for another concept in 2017. You can watch it here


Line drawings

To visualize my concept I made line drawings of a spot where the old inner canals where. First I took pictures of the place and then I made sketches with pencil. From the sketches, I made digital line drawings. On these line drawings, I will visualize my concepts. I can also use the drawings from my classmates and they can use mine, as everybody has drawn another spot in the city.
