The concept
Description: The tiles at Enschede central station lighten up when you walk over them. This happens by means of pressure sensors beneath the tiles. When you walk over the tiles they build up energie and with this energie the tiles will lighten up.
Purpose: there are three things I want to achieve with this concept.
- Creating more interaction in our daily life experience.
- To brighten up the street image, make it more enjoyable.
- A new way of making Environmentally friendly energie using "Pavegen tiles"

Then I searched further and came at a Youtube video about tiles that build up energie by walking over them. At this moment I was really happy, because this was exactly what I needed for my concept. But the video was from 2014 and the tiles were just a concept at that time.

So I found a video from 2017 with the same company (Pavegen) I saw in the video from 2014 with the worked out tiles. They have a whole website where you can see their work and how innovative the tiles are at the moment. When you walk over the tile it builds up energie and you can make light from that energie (as seen above in the .gif).
Extra: With these tiles you can provide energie for street lanterns or other electric driving objects, maybe we could power up cars with it sometime. You could also collect data with these tiles about how many people walk on that specific point. With this information you can learn the habits of walking on different places. Example, maybe there has to be more space on that specific place or a crosswalk because on that place people cross the street a lot. There is a lot you could imagine with that information and it can become really handy.
