Material - Wood

This lesson of material I worked with wood. At first, we got a tour in the workplace. A short introduction all the machines and different wood there is available. When they talked about veneer I was really interested. I learned that veneer is a planed piece of wood like the picture above. For example, you can glue it on MDF wood so it gets a lot nicer look.

I already had an idea of what I wanted to make. I live in a little apartment with my girlfriend who is also busy being creative. So our house is an explosion of material and we don't even have a working bench or something. That's why I decided to make a folding work table. So veneer became my experiment for this lesson. I want to make a table top that fits in our house. Beneath you will see the pictures of how it went.

Started with a sketch and ready to experiment with the veneer wood.

When you use veneer wood you need to glue it and put it under heavy pressure.

This didn't work out well. The pressure of the big log wasn't enough and not evenly.

The first time didn't go well as you can see, but with a little tip and cooperation of the workplace operators from wood and graph, we managed to get the veneer wood straight on. We did it with a little test piece and we did put it under the press from the graph workplace, but the table I'm working on will be on this blog in a while. I'm really excited to work on my foldable table.

On the left you see the press. On the right the piece of wood with veneer and I oiled it for the best result.

The test piece fits in the house!
