Talk by Daan Roosegaarde
I attended a talk by Daan Roosegaarde and it was really inspiring. At first, I didn't really know about Roosegaarde, the only thing I knew was about the "Smog free project". So I began to do some research before I attended the talk. I found really interesting projects that he made and it already inspired me.So at the talk in Arnhem, he told a lot about his projects and things he is still working on. He talked about the process and effort you must make to get projects like this going on. It's really amazing what he went through and I liked his presentation a lot. I learned a lot from that talk and he made me even more enthusiast for my "future" projects. He made me think about our world and how we are saying that we do innovative stuff, but we really do less than we think. The innovation right know are pretty small steps and we can do much bigger steps.
For example look at Roosegaarde's "Smog free tower" and "Van Gogh Path"(1).
These two projects are a really big step for our future. We produce a lot of smog these days and with towers like this we could get much cleaner air, so why aren't we building more of these towers?
The "Van Gogh Path" is a great way of getting rid of all those lanterns, without the lanterns we have less waste of energy and less light pollution. It also gives an amazing street view, which can be enjoyed by everyone, at least I think it looks beautiful.

He also mentioned nature and that we can still learn a lot from nature, we think we are working to the future, but we still have a lot of "primitive" ways on how we work things out and this may sound strange, but at the talk Roosegaarde showed a part of a documentary(2) about a man pouring cement into an ant hole. The thing is they discovered a couple of things that we still do worse than ants. For example, ants don't have traffic jams or electric ventilation. Their ventilation works without electricity and how they manage to get no traffic jams with so many ants amazes me. What I try to say our new ideas may seem futuristic and innovative, but actually we go back in time with some of our "human" inventions.
This is just a small part of the evening there were more interesting topics and more talk by Roosegaarde, but than u have to go and see it for yourselves. I recommend it for everyone, because in a way this is important for our whole community. And as Roosegaarde said we can reach much more if we work together!
